MAGAZINE
TWIN LENS VIVE
Vive
Camera Company, Chicago, Illinois
circa 1900
The Magazine Twin
Lens Vive was a stereoscopic version of the
standard mechanical plate changing "M.P.C." magazine cameras, being
offered by the Vive Camera Company.
Appearing by 1900 in The International Annual of Anthony's Photographic Bulletin, Volume
XII, the camera made two images on 3-1/2 x 6-3/4 plates, retained
within twelve metal holders. The camera was equipped with a single viewfinder
and a universal tripod mount. The shutter release was located at the bottom and
could be used pneumatically with an adaptor.
Like the Compact
5x7 Tourist and the 3-1/2 x 6-3/4
Tourist Style cameras that were also
priced at $15, the Magazine Twin Lens Vive fell into the higher end of Vive's magazine camera line. None
of these models proved as popular as Vive's 4-1/4 x 4-1/4 and 4x5 M.P.C.'s,
production was evidently very low and they are rarely encountered today.
